DESCRIPTION

Queensland Courts provides a wide range of statistical information about the operation of the courts. Additionally, Queensland Courts provide specific domestic and family violence statistics.

Data collections cover three topics:
    • Applications for domestic violence protection orders (DVOs) lodged;
    • DVOs made; and
    • Criminal charges lodged relating to Family and Domestic Violence (FDV)

Figures are provided for larger court locations as well as state-wide totals.

Family and Domestic Violence data collections cover applications lodged, DVOs made, and criminal charges lodged relating to FDV.

SCOPE AND COVERAGE

Criminal defendants in Queensland courts and applicants and respondents in DV order application matters.

DEFINITION OF FAMILY AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Domestic violence is defined by Queensland legislation as occurring when one person behaves in a way that is abusive, threatening, coercive, or in any other way controls or dominates another person and causes fear for their safety and well-being. Domestic violence is usually a pattern of abusive and controlling behaviour taking many forms, within intimate, family or informal care relationships.
